Is Pain After Massage Normal?

Scent Discovery is now happily settled in our new premises with our expansion - with more space, more room, more facilities and the same excellent services! We look forward to welcoming you.

Many of our clients have asked this question, and we thought it would be interesting to share it with everyone. Is pain after a massage session normal, or does it mean there is something wrong?

First, there needs to be a clarification. Pain is almost never considered to be a normal part of our lives. When you experience pain, your body is telling you that something is not too right.

Different people respond to a massage in different ways. What is painful for some people, might not be "hard" enough for others. You need to communicate with your masseuse. This is one of the reasons why you should try to have a regular therapist rather than go from one to another. When you get familiar with each other, you not only are more relaxed, but the massage therapist is able to read your body better.

Usually, when you experience pain after a massage, there are two possible reasons:

- you have an injury or strain which went un-noticed and the massage session managed to get the knots out - you are not used to receiving a massage and your body is adjusting to the new sensations

Pain is also related to the type of massage that you get. If you get a deep tissue massage, usually you will experience some discomfort the day after. But the longer term benefits are a more relaxed and looser muscles.

It is important that when you experience any pain or discomfort, tell your massage therapist immediately. Discuss the sensation, whether it is a dull pain, a sharp pain or a numbing feeling. When you communicate, you not only get a better massage, your therapist will also be able to help you identify whether or not there is any reason to be concerned. Most therapist will know when you need to be referred for further treatment.

In general, a massage therapy should leave you feeling relaxed, soothed and refreshed.

Astrological Aromatherapy for Sept: Libra (24 Sep - 23 Oct)

Libras, symbolized by a set of scales, place high importance in fairness and balance. Librans are natural diplomants and love peace and balance. It is not surprising that they are very good at relationships and can usually relate to people of all ages.

Aromatherapy seems to be particularly effective for the Libra. The appropriate oil, and a good rapport with the therapist can do wonders for a Libran.

Astrological Oil for Sept

Understanding the Libran, the geramium is the most logical choice for Libra. Balancing the mind and emotions, this essential oil stimulates the adrenal cortex and helps to balance the hormonal system. At the same time, it stimulates the lymphatic system, raising the body's natural resistance.

Geramium is mostly colorless and is watery. The essential oil is extracted through a process of steam distillation. Only ten variants of the plant produces sufficient essential oil to be viable for production. Most common garden varieties of Geramium cannot produce the essential oil in sufficient volume.

This essential oil has an overall uplifting quality, with an overall balancing effect on the mind and body. It helps with poor circulation, sore throat, PMS, stress and several other issues. It has a strong aroma and has even been used as a ward against insects and other undesirables.

Yours faithfully,
Constance Seng
